Pray in this manner

Mat 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  - The Person of Prayer Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  - The Petition of Prayer Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.  - The Provision of Prayer Mat 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  - The Pardon of Prayer Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: - The Protection of Prayer. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. - The Power of Prayer

  1. God wants us to Pray for Natural Provision

Matt 6:11 Give us today our daily bread.

God wants us to ask the Father for our daily bread.  It is not wrong to pray for a home; it is not wrong to pray for a job that would be a blessing for you and your family.  It is not wrong to pray for a car that is reliable.  It is not wrong to pray for natural provision.  God wants us to ask him for daily bread.

The sentence begins with Give.  Why because God is a giver.  He likes to provide for his children.   Give us today our daily bread.

Ex 16:4 Then the Lord said to Moses, Behold I will rain bread from heaven for you.  And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my Law or not. Ex 16:5 And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

It uses the words day and daily.

Matt 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

He tested Israel whether they could trust Him every day.  Can they depend on him daily? They had to look to God for their daily provision.  God designed us to eat daily, teaching us that we must trust him daily.  God wants us to depend on him daily.  You must look to God for your daily provision.  Daily bread means that we are going to trust on God for our daily bread. We must look only to God to provide for us. God wants us to talk to us daily.  Daily bread represents that we are talking to God daily

Ex 16:15 So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?”  For they did not know what it was, and Moses said to them “This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.  Ex 16:16 This is the thing that the Lord has commanded: “Let every man gather it according to each one’s need, one omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent. Ex 16:17 Then the children of Israel did so and gathered, some more, some less. Ex 16:18 So when they measured it by omers, he who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.  Every man had gathered according to each one’s need.

You had to gather omers according to the number of people in your household. God provided exactly what was needed in each house.  You must pray for your daily need.  You pray exactly what your need is, for each person in your house.

If you are a family of five, you pray for the needs of the family of five.  You pray for your daily bread.  Provision comes from God.

You pray daily for the bread from heaven to meet the specific need of everyone in the house. You pray for your need and God will meet your need, daily.

Prov 30:8 Give me neither poverty nor riches – feed me with the food allotted to me.

Feed me with food allotted to me.  I need to rely on God daily. A lot of preachers are teaching a prosperity versus a poverty gospel. Jesus is teaching a gospel of provision. The father wants to provide for your needs daily.  He wants you to depend on him.

2. God wants us to Pray for Spiritual Provision

God also uses the bread as reference to spiritual provision.  God uses the word bread and not food, because bread has a spiritual meaning in the scripture.

Mark 7, Jesus calls the freedom of bondage the children’s bread. If you are a child of God’s kingdom, you can get freedom from bondage.

Joh 6:31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert, as it is written.  He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

Mat 6:32 Then Jesus said to them, most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. Mat 6:33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.

God provides the true bread; it is He who gives life to the world.  The disciples ask him to give them some of this bread.   Jesus said He is the bread.   We therefore know that bread also has a spiritual meaning.

Matt 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Deut 8:3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

Do we not only pray for daily bread, but for spiritual bread as well? Lord will you give me the word that proceeds from your mouth for today.  Do you have a situation in your life where you need a word from God every day?

This is what Jesus is saying, give us today our daily bread.   There was manna from heaven, natural food, but there is also spiritual food. You can ask God for a word from Him daily.

Simply read the word of God every day.  God wants to speak to you daily. Ask, when you ask, God will provide. When you cannot sleep at night it is because, you worry whether God will provide manna in the morning.  God’s manna will be on the ground, you just must pick it up. God will care for you every day.  Don’t worry about tomorrow.

God takes care of the flowers; He will take care of you.

Daily Manna is a test.  God tested his people.

Test 1.  Do not take more than what you need.  If you do it will become rotten.

God did not provide for two days, only for one.  You must trust God daily.

Test 2.  On the 6th day you must get enough for 2 days.  God’s people did not trust him, on the 7th day they went to go and look for more bread.  Ask God daily what you need.  Before you ask, God knows what you want, but you must ask. Ask God for natural and spiritual provision.

Conclusion

God wants us to Pray for Natural Provision.

God wants us to Pray for Spiritual Provision

God wants us to Pray daily for our Provision
