Do you want to stand out? Part 4: Grow-up

Patrick J van Rensburg

Mat 23:11

"Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. (MSG)

God has made you to live forever

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT) God has . . . planted eternity in the human heart.

The reason for creation

Romans 11:36 (LB)  Everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory.

The anointing, calling and the gift

1 Peter 2: 9 “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, GOD’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of HIM who called you out of darkness into HIS wonderful light.”

ANOINTING IS NOT FOR US BUT FOR SERVICE UNTO OTHERS.

God gave His best – Are you giving your best?

Joh 3:16  For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.

Your are still babies

 Hebrews 5:11  (AMP)

11 Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in hearing and disinclined to listen. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers , you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word , and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food. Heb 12: 13 13 For everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.

Why are you still babies? How to Grow-up?

Dull in hearing.

  • “Dull” can also mean slothful, slow, sluggish. This person’s ears are lazy. He is not quick to hear

  • 1Pe 2:2  Be like newborn babies, always thirsty for the pure spiritual milk, so that by drinking it you may grow up and be saved.

Mat 13:9  "Are you listening to this? Really listening?"  Mat 13:10  The disciples came up and asked, "Why do you tell stories?"  Mat 13:11  He replied, "You've been given insight into God's kingdom. You know how it works. Not everybody has this gift, this insight; it hasn't been given to them. Mat 13:12  Whenever someone has a ready heart for this, the insights and understandings flow freely. But if there is no readiness, any trace of receptivity soon disappears. Mat 13:14  I don't want Isaiah's forecast repeated all over again: Your ears are open but you don't hear a thing. Your eyes are awake but you don't see a thing.  Mat 13:15  The people are blockheads! They stick their fingers in their ears so they won't have to listen; They screw their eyes shut so they won't have to look, so they won't have to deal with me face-to-face and let me heal them.  Mat 13:16  "But you have God-blessed eyes--eyes that see! And God-blessed ears--ears that hear!  Mat 13:17  A lot of people, prophets and humble believers among them, would have given anything to see what you are seeing, to hear what you are hearing, but never had the chance.

  • 1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

How to hear the Voice of God?

 1. Check Your Receiver

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV)  “And you will seek for Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” –

1 Kings 19:12  (MSG)  12 Then he was told, “Go, stand on the mountain at attention before God. God will pass by.”

  • God doesn’t communicate with us the way we communicate with one another. He communicates from His Spirit to your spirit, and then your spirit communicates what you hear to your mind.

  • That is what we call an inward witness. It is very similar to a thought or a prompting. It’s very subtle and requires a closeness with God and regular practice to hear it more quickly and clearly.

Job 37:5 (NIV) God’s voice thunders in marvellous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.

A receiver who is intact and ready to tune in to the voice of God is one who is expecting to hear from Him, and is willing to learn to know His voice.

2. Find His Frequency

–John 10:4 (NKJV)  “They know his voice”

Joh 10:3  The gatekeeper opens the gate for him; the sheep hear his voice as he calls his own sheep by name, and he leads them out.  Joh 10:4  When he has brought them out, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.  Joh 10:5  They will not follow someone else; instead, they will run away from such a person, because they do not know his voice."

3. Learn to Discern His Voice

Joh 10:27  My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

4. Line It Up With His Word—the Bible

Isaiah 55:11 “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

The best part about hearing God’s voice?

Jer 33:3  "Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about.

Take Action

Hebrews 5:11 (AMP)  11 Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in hearing and disinclined to listen
