DAY 1 — Revival Begins with Hunger
Matthew 5:6 (NIV) “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
Focus Thought: Revival begins when spiritual appetite returns.
Jesus did not say, “Blessed are those who know everything about God.” He said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst.” Hunger recognises that there is more of God to know, experience, and pursue.
One of the greatest dangers in our spiritual lives is becoming satisfied with yesterday's encounter. We can continue attending church, praying familiar prayers, singing familiar songs, and reading Scripture while gradually losing our hunger for God's Presence.
Revival interrupts spiritual complacency. It begins when something inside us cries, “Lord, I want You more than routine. I want Your Presence more than comfort. I want reality, not merely activity.”
Physical hunger tells us that our bodies need nourishment. Spiritual hunger reminds us that our souls were created for God. When hunger disappears, we should not simply accept it. We should ask God to awaken it again.
Hosting His Presence means deliberately cultivating an appetite for God. Spend time in worship. Open His Word expecting Him to speak. Pray beyond your usual routine. Remove distractions that continually consume your attention.
But revival hunger must begin personally. It is easy to pray, “Lord, revive our church,” while overlooking our own hearts.
The first prayer of revival is not, “Lord, change them.” It is: “Lord, awaken me.” Ask Him to restore wonder. Ask Him to make you hungry for righteousness. Ask Him to create a holy dissatisfaction with spiritual complacency.
Jesus gives us a promise: those who hunger and thirst will be filled.
Action for Today: Pray throughout today: “Lord, start revival in me.”
Reflective Question: What fresh desire for God awakened in you today?
Prayer: Lord, awaken my hunger for You. Never let me become satisfied with spiritual routine without Your Presence. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Where do I need fresh hunger for God?
