Day 4 — Steward Your Gifts for God’s Glory

1 Peter 4:10–11 (NIV) "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."

Focus Thought: One of the greatest truths every believer must understand is that everything we have belongs to God. Our lives are not our own. Our salvation is a gift. Our opportunities are gifts. Our relationships are gifts. Even the spiritual gifts and natural abilities we possess are gifts entrusted to us by the Lord.

Peter reminds us that "each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others." Notice the wording carefully. He does not say, "if you have received a gift." He says, "whatever gift you have received."

Every believer has been entrusted with something from God. Some have the gift of teaching. Others encourage. Some lead. Others show mercy. Some serve behind the scenes. Others pray faithfully. Some are generous. Others carry wisdom. Some have gifts of hospitality, administration, evangelism, craftsmanship, music, discernment, leadership, or intercession.

Every gift is different. Every gift is valuable. Every gift reveals another aspect of God's grace. Hosting the Presence of God begins with recognising that our gifts were never given primarily for our benefit. They were entrusted to us so that the love, wisdom, compassion, and power of Jesus could flow through us to others.

Peter calls us "faithful stewards of God's grace." That phrase is profound. It means your gift is not merely an ability; it is a stewardship of God's grace. When you encourage someone, God's encouragement flows through you. When you teach His Word faithfully, God's truth flows through you. When you serve quietly, God's love becomes visible through your hands. When you pray for someone, God's compassion reaches them through your obedience.

When you give generously, God's provision flows through your stewardship. Your gift is never about drawing attention to yourself. It is about revealing Christ. This is why hosting God's Presence is so important. Without His Presence, we may use our gifts to build our own reputation. With His Presence, we use our gifts to build His Kingdom. The difference is motive. One seeks applause. The other seeks worship. One desires recognition. The other desires that Jesus be glorified. This is why Peter concludes, "...so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ."

That is the purpose of every gift. Not personal success. Not popularity. Not influence. But the glory of God. Throughout Scripture we see this principle repeated. Joseph used his administrative gift to preserve nations during famine. Bezalel used his artistic ability to build the Tabernacle where God's Presence would dwell. David used his musical gift to worship the Lord and minister to Saul. Paul used his teaching gift to establish churches throughout the Roman Empire. Dorcas used her gift of generosity and practical service to bless widows and the poor. Each person served differently, yet each revealed the grace of God through faithful stewardship.

One of the greatest dangers believers face is either neglecting their gifts or misusing them. Some people bury their gifts because of fear. They compare themselves with others. They feel inadequate. They wait until they feel more qualified. Others become proud of their gifts and begin believing the gift belongs to them rather than to God. Both extremes miss God's purpose. The faithful steward neither hides the gift nor exalts the gift. The faithful steward simply uses it for God's glory. Jesus taught this in the Parable of the Talents. The master did not evaluate his servants by comparing the size of their talents. He evaluated them by their faithfulness. The servant with two talents received exactly the same commendation as the servant with five. Why? Because God measures faithfulness, not comparison. Hosting God's Presence frees us from comparison. We no longer ask, "Why don't I have their gift?" Instead we ask, "Lord, how can I faithfully use what You have entrusted to me?" This changes everything.

Even seemingly ordinary gifts become sacred. A welcoming smile at church. Preparing a meal for someone in need. Listening with compassion. Leading a Bible study. Fixing something that is broken. Managing finances with integrity. Writing words of encouragement. Praying faithfully behind the scenes. None of these are small when offered to Jesus. Every gift becomes holy when surrendered to God.

The Holy Spirit also reminds us that gifts grow through faithful use. The more we steward them humbly, the more God develops them. He shapes our character alongside our gifting because character sustains what gifting opens. Hosting His Presence means allowing the Giver to continually shape the gift. We remain teachable. Dependent. Humble. Grateful. Available. We remember that we are not owners. We are stewards. Everything we have belongs to Him.

Today, ask yourself: How can my gifts reveal Jesus today? Not someday. Today. Someone needs the encouragement you carry. Someone needs the wisdom God has placed within you. Someone needs your compassion. Someone needs your prayers. Someone needs your servant's heart. God has already equipped you. Now He simply asks you to be faithful. As you faithfully steward your gifts, people will not merely see your abilities. They will encounter the grace of God flowing through your life. And that is the highest purpose of every gift entrusted by Heaven.

Romans 12:6–8 (NIV) "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully."

God never intended His gifts to remain unused. Every gift has been entrusted to us so that His grace may flow through our lives into the lives of others. Faithful stewardship begins by simply using what God has already placed in our hands.

Action for Today: Prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit, "Lord, what gift have You entrusted to me that someone needs today?" Then intentionally use that gift to bless another person. Perhaps you can encourage someone with a phone call. Pray with someone who is hurting. Serve quietly without expecting recognition. Teach God's Word. Give generously. Offer practical help. Show kindness. Lead with humility. Whatever gift God highlights, use it joyfully as an offering of worship rather than as a performance.

Reflection Question: How did using your God-given gift today bless or encourage someone else? As you served, how did you become more aware that you were not simply using an ability but stewarding God's grace through the power of His Presence?

Prayer: Father, thank You for graciously entrusting me with gifts that I did not earn and could never deserve. Every ability, every opportunity, and every spiritual gift comes from Your generous hand. Forgive me for the times I have neglected what You have entrusted to me. Forgive me for comparing my gifts with those of others. Forgive me for any pride, fear, insecurity, or selfish ambition that has hindered me from serving You wholeheartedly. Holy Spirit, teach me to become a faithful steward of Your grace. Help me to use every gift with humility, compassion, excellence, and love. May I never seek recognition for what belongs to You. Protect my heart from pride and keep my motives pure. Help me remember that my greatest privilege is not being gifted but being close to You. Lord Jesus, let every word I speak, every act of service I perform, every decision I make, and every gift I exercise point people to You rather than to myself. May those around me experience Your kindness, wisdom, peace, and love through my life. Continue developing both my character and my gifting. Help me to remain teachable, dependent upon the Holy Spirit, and faithful in every opportunity You provide. Above all, may everything I do bring glory to Your name. For all that I have belongs to You. Use me as You desire. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.

Journal Prompt: Spend time reflecting on the gifts God has entrusted to you.

Write honestly about the following:

• What gifts has God uniquely placed in my life?

• Am I faithfully using them or have I neglected them?

• Have I ever compared my gifts with those of others?

• How can my gifts become a greater expression of God's Presence?

• Who has God placed in my life that could be blessed through the gifts He has given me?

• What practical step can I take this week to steward my gifts more faithfully?
