Day 3 — Time Is a Sacred Trust

Psalm 90:12 (NIV) "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

Focus Thought: Time is one of God's greatest gifts, yet it is also one of His greatest trusts. Unlike money, possessions, or opportunities, time is the one resource that can never be recovered once it has passed. Every person, regardless of wealth, education, influence, or ability, receives the same twenty-four hours each day. The difference is not found in how much time we have but in how faithfully we steward the time God has entrusted to us.

Moses, the author of Psalm 90, understood this profound truth. After leading Israel for decades and witnessing both the faithfulness of God and the frailty of humanity, he prayed, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

Notice that Moses did not ask God for more days. He asked for wisdom to steward the days he had.

Hosting the Presence of God changes the way we view time. We stop seeing each day merely as a list of appointments, deadlines, meetings, and responsibilities. Instead, we begin to recognise that every day is a divine gift, prepared by God and filled with opportunities to know Him, love others, and fulfil His purposes.

When you wake each morning, you are not simply beginning another day—you are receiving another opportunity to glorify God. Every conversation can reveal Christ. Every task can become worship. Every interruption can become a divine appointment. Every challenge can become an opportunity to trust Him. Every decision can either draw you closer to His Presence or distract you from it. This is why the stewardship of time is ultimately the stewardship of life itself. How we spend our time reveals what truly holds first place in our hearts. Jesus said, Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."  The same principle applies to time. Where your time consistently goes, your heart has already followed. If our schedules leave little room for God, we should not assume that our hearts remain unaffected. Our calendars often reveal our priorities more honestly than our words. Hosting God's Presence means intentionally making room for God every day. This is not because God needs our time.

It is because our hearts need His Presence. Without intentional communion with Him, life quickly becomes crowded with distractions. Modern life constantly competes for our attention. Notifications demand immediate responses. Endless entertainment fills every quiet moment. Responsibilities multiply. Urgency replaces reflection. Busyness becomes a badge of honour. Yet busyness is not the same as fruitfulness. It is entirely possible to be incredibly busy while accomplishing very little of eternal significance. Jesus was never hurried. He lived with purpose.

Although surrounded by enormous needs, He never appeared driven by anxiety. He knew when to minister. He knew when to withdraw. He knew when to pray. He knew when to rest. He knew that His life was governed by the Father's agenda rather than people's expectations. Hosting God's Presence invites us into that same rhythm. The Holy Spirit teaches us not merely to manage our time better but to surrender our time completely to God.

Instead of asking, "How can I fit God into my schedule?" We begin asking, "Lord, how do You want me to use the time You have entrusted to me today?" This simple shift transforms everything. Work becomes worship. Rest becomes obedience. Family becomes ministry. Prayer becomes priority. Even ordinary responsibilities become sacred when offered to God. Faithfulness with time also means recognising that every season has its purpose.

There are seasons for learning. Seasons for serving. Seasons for resting. Seasons for grieving. Seasons for celebrating. Seasons for waiting. The wise believer does not compare seasons but embraces God's timing in each one. When we host His Presence, we learn that God's pace is always better than our pressure.

One of the enemy's favourite strategies is distraction. He cannot always stop God's people from doing good things, so he often fills their lives with so many activities that they no longer have time for the best things. Martha was busy serving. Mary was sitting at Jesus' feet. Jesus did not criticise Martha's work.  He simply reminded her that one thing was necessary. His Presence. The greatest investment you will ever make with your time is time spent with Jesus. Everything else flows from there. Your decisions become wiser. Your relationships become healthier. Your work becomes more fruitful. Your ministry becomes more effective. Your soul becomes more peaceful.

Today, ask the Lord to help you see your time through Heaven's perspective. Do not measure your day merely by what you accomplished. Measure it by how faithfully you walked with Him. For the greatest use of time is not simply doing more. It is becoming more like Christ.

And every moment spent in His Presence is time that will echo throughout eternity.

Ephesians 5:15–16 (NIV) "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil."

Wisdom is revealed in how we use the time God has entrusted to us. Every moment is an opportunity either to invest in what is temporary or to participate in what is eternal. Those who host God's Presence learn to redeem every day for His glory.

Action for Today: Take fifteen minutes to prayerfully review your daily and weekly schedule. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any activities, habits, or distractions that consistently steal time from your relationship with God or prevent you from fulfilling His purposes.

Choose one unnecessary distraction to remove or reduce this week. Then intentionally dedicate that time to prayer, Scripture reading, worship, serving someone, or simply sitting quietly in God's Presence.

Reflection Question: As you reviewed your schedule today, what did the Holy Spirit reveal about the way you steward your time? What practical adjustment can you make that will create more space for God's Presence to shape your daily life?

Prayer: Father, thank You for the precious gift of time. Every day I live is a gift from Your hand and an opportunity to know You more deeply and serve You more faithfully. Forgive me for the times I have wasted the moments You entrusted to me. Forgive me for allowing distractions, busyness, and lesser priorities to crowd out what matters most. Teach me to number my days with wisdom. Help me to recognise that every conversation, every responsibility, and every opportunity can become an act of worship when it is surrendered to You.

Holy Spirit, teach me to live at Heaven's pace rather than the world's pace. Help me to know when to work, when to rest, when to speak, when to listen, and when simply to sit quietly in Your Presence. Guard my heart from unnecessary distractions. Give me discernment to distinguish between what is merely urgent and what is truly important. Lord Jesus, may my life never become so busy that I neglect the One for whom I am living. Help me to choose the better portion each day. May my schedule reflect my love for You. May my calendar reveal my priorities. May every hour become an opportunity to glorify Your name. Thank You that Your Presence gives purpose to every moment. Help me to steward every day faithfully until the work You have given me to do is complete. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.

Write honestly about the following:

• What activities receive most of my time and attention?

• Does my daily schedule reflect my deepest spiritual priorities?

• What distractions have gradually taken God's place?

• When do I most consistently experience God's Presence during my day?

• What one change would help me steward my time more faithfully?

• How can I intentionally create more space for prayer, worship, and listening to the Holy Spirit?
