Do you know how much of your valuable personal time you spend engaging with some form of screen time being it TV, phone or iPad? Research has shown that most people spend more than 3 hours per day in front of a screen, trapped by the lure of images and entertainment. Successful people don’t spend more than 1 hour per day in front of a screen. In most cases if they spend time in front of a screen, it will be to watch educational programmes. Most successful people would rather spend their time developing their skills and those of others. We waste our lives away. Instead of living life, we watch other people live. Instead of playing with our friends, learning new things, honing skills, enjoying time with our loved ones, praying, reading, sharpening our minds, having fun, and exercising, we waste our time away in front of our devices.
The average CEO reads about 60 books per year. They learn from the most successful people. The great thing about life is that anything you would like to master, a book has already been written about it.
People can achieve great things if they live a life of focus, purpose, and discipline. You are in the driver’s seat of your life.
The Bible instructs us to use our time effectively.
Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV) Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Colossians 4:5 (ESV) Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.
Proverbs 6:6-11 (MSG) You lazy fool, look at an ant. Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two. Nobody has to tell it what to do. All summer it stores up food; at harvest it stockpiles provisions. So how long are you going to laze around doing nothing? How long before you get out of bed? A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back, take it easy—do you know what comes next? Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life, poverty your permanent houseguest!
“You can’t make up for lost time. You can only do better in the future.” ― Ashley Ormon
“Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s value out of a week.” – Charles Richards
I conclude with: “The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” ― Michael Altshuler
