God’s people always indicate a clear relationship between God and man. Anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord becomes a part of the people of God. It is a deliberate choice to follow God, and God alone.

God refers to My people who are called by my name because those are the people who made the inquiry. These are the people He called out of bondage to bring salvation to the world through Jesus Christ. These are the people who prayed to dedicate the temple to God, and who prayed to dedicate their lives to Him as well.

Deuteronomy 7:6-8a (NKJV) “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the LORD loves you…

1 Chronicles 29:17 (NLT) I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.

To be called by God is to be chosen by God for a certain purpose. When a person is aware of that call and surrenders to it, that person starts to live God’s purpose for him/her. The church, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, is called God’s people.

1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIV) But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Isaiah 43:1-2 (NLT) But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

Every Christian has a calling on his/her life. We were designed before the foundation of the world to be His workmanship, glorifying Him as we bring forth the fruit He desires.
