DAY 5 — Revival Restores First Love
Revelation 2:4–5 (NIV) “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.”
Focus Thought: The church in Ephesus had many impressive qualities. They worked hard, persevered, rejected false teaching, and endured difficulties for Jesus. Yet something essential had been lost. Jesus said, “You have forsaken the love you had at first.” They still had activity, but their affection had changed. This is one of the greatest dangers in Christian life. We can become busy for Jesus while gradually becoming distant from Jesus.
Revival restores first love. Remember when worship was not simply another song? Remember when Scripture felt alive? Remember when prayer was conversation rather than obligation? Remember when talking about Jesus filled your heart with excitement? Jesus' invitation is beautiful: “Do the things you did at first.” Return. Return to worship without rushing. Return to Scripture with expectation. Return to prayer because you want His Presence, not merely His answers.
Hosting His Presence must always remain relational. God does not simply want our service. He wants our hearts. This is why revival is ultimately about Jesus. Signs and wonders may accompany revival. Churches may grow. People may be saved. Communities may change. But at the centre of genuine revival there must always be a renewed love for Jesus.
Ask yourself today: Has anything become more important to me than simply knowing and loving Him? Do not settle for serving Jesus without enjoying Jesus. Come back to the simplicity of devotion.
Revival happens when Jesus becomes our greatest love again.
Action for Today: Spend unhurried time worshipping Jesus without asking Him for anything.
Reflective Question: What affection for Jesus was rekindled in you today?
Prayer: Jesus, restore my first love. Become again the greatest desire and delight of my heart. Amen.
Journal Prompt: What does returning to my first love look like?
