DAY 4 — Revival Comes Through Prayer

Acts 4:29–31 (NIV) “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus. After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”

Focus Thought: Throughout the history of God's people, spiritual awakening has repeatedly been connected with prayer.

Acts 4 gives us a powerful picture. The early believers faced opposition and threats. Yet instead of praying primarily for easier circumstances, they prayed for boldness. And after they prayed, something happened. The place was shaken. They were filled with the Holy Spirit. They spoke God's Word boldly.

Prayer changed the atmosphere, but it also changed them. This is an important dimension of revival prayer. We often pray because we want God to change something around us. Yet while we pray, God begins changing something within us. Fear becomes faith. Discouragement becomes courage. Independence becomes dependence. Spiritual coldness becomes hunger.

Hosting His Presence requires a praying people. Revival rarely grows where prayer has become optional. Prayer expresses our dependence upon God. Every time we pray, we are declaring, “Lord, we need You.” Strategy cannot accomplish everything. Strategy cannot change every heart. There are strongholds human wisdom cannot break. We need the Holy Spirit.  Acts 4 also shows the power of corporate prayer. The believers gathered together and lifted their voices to God. Something powerful happens when families, churches, leaders, and communities unite around one cry: “Lord, move among us.” Do not only pray for personal breakthrough. Expand your prayers. Pray for your church. Pray for your city. Pray for your nation. And pray with expectation. Revival grows wherever God's people rediscover the place of prayer.

Action for Today: Pray with others for your church, community, city, and nation.

Reflective Question: What changed in your heart as you prayed for others?

Prayer: Lord, awaken prayer among Your people. Fill us with Your Spirit and give us boldness. Amen.

Journal Prompt: What am I believing God to revive?
