10 April 2023 - What is our purpose on Earth?

Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT) You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

What a fantastic verse. God made us wonderfully intricate. His workmanship is marvellous. With that in mind, don’t you think God has something special for each of us? He has made each one of us unique. With millions of people in this world, we are all unique. God also gave each one of us unique skills and abilities. We all have a particular purpose and task to fulfil.

God purposefully created us to have unique gifts – He didn’t design us to be all the same! These talents, abilities, and passions are the equipment necessary to fulfil God’s purpose for each individual here on earth. We first need to understand God’s purpose to understand our unique purpose as individuals.

The Bible begins with God, and that is where man’s purpose begins too. God’s primary purpose for us is to glorify Him.

Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Colossians 3:23 (NIV) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Philippians 2:12-16 (MSG) What I’m getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you’ve done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience. Now that I’m separated from you, keep it up. Better yet, redouble your efforts. Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure. Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You’ll be living proof that I didn’t go to all this work for nothing.

We also fulfil our purpose of glorifying God by living in a relationship with Him and serving Him faithfully. Since God created man in His image, man’s purpose cannot be fulfilled apart from Him.

Today, I conclude with Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 (ESV) The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
